Mangoes help lose Extra Fat, says Study

Mangoes can help lose extra fat. A recent study has suggested that the obese patients should go for eating more mangoes and its skins to stay slim and fit.

The study reveals that the African mango seed extract helps the obese patients become more sensitive to lepitin, a hormone that is excreted by the body that controls fat storage.

As obesity and overweight lead to cardiovascular diseases, high blood pressure, type II diabetes and several other related issues, it is high time to think over the problem. Fortunately a team of researchers at the University of Yaounde have found Mango to be a significant fruit to fight this disease.

Professors at the University of Yaounde in Cameroon went on to study the effect and found that mango seeds contain an extract for which when it is consumed as a supplement, helps patients lose extra fat and stabilize cholesterol levels.

The study took 102 overweight or obese adults and gave them African mango to consume for the purpose of the study. While one group of the subjects were given Mango to be consumed the other were provided with a placebo (inactive sugar pill) for 10 weeks at a dosage of two pills per day.

At the conclusion of the study, the group taking the African mango seed extract supplements had lost a total of 12.5 kilograms while the placebo group had no prominent changes. Both groups were allowed to continue their usual diets and exercise levels during the experiment.

The study also observed improvement in blood glucose levels and decrease in LDL (bad) cholesterol in the Mango taking group.

The researchers opined that the presence of lepitin, the peptide hormone that controls extra fat in the body, in the African mango seed extract actually helps control the fat storage.
